On Republic Day, 26th January 2020, the Saaraakassh team conducted a Mega Eye Camp for the tribal adivasis of 8 villages. This was done in association with Essilor Vision a Bengaluru based organization. Abhijeet Kulkarni of Optifocus and his team were the professionals who managed the checkups end to end.
This was a huge project conducted over three phases. On 11th January 2020, Phase 1 was done where our volunteers and a few villagers were trained for pre screening tests for the eye camp. Here everyone was trained in doing a simple pre-screening exercise of eye sight for all villagers and make a card for those who showed any difficulties of long sightedness or short sightedness.
Phase 2 was spread over the next two weeks where volunteers took to doing this screening exercise in all the eight villages covering a total of 750 villagers. From these screenings, the villagers were issued a card to attend Phase 3, i.e. the actual eye camp on 26th January 2020.
Almost 225 checkups were done and around 175 spectacles were distributed to the villagers of 8 villages. As usual, Saaraakassh was backed by a dedicated and sincere team of volunteers which this time included Jayashree, one of our trustees, and as always Vijay , Rupa, Damodar and team members Omkar, Savita and Surse Kaka.
